Resolutions for a New Year

Resolutions for a New Year

Happy New Year to you and yours!

As we reflect on the past year, we are so thankful to you for helping us reach our goal of eliminating fashion waste and serving families to that end. Your participation in our Re-Cycle program and support online and in the boutique keep us going and working towards our goals. We hope we can help you with yours as well! If you're considering resolutions for January, may we suggest a few?

2022 Resolutions

Buy Less

There's no question that in North America we live lives of plenty. We have more than we need in almost every domain and clothing waste here leads to pollution somewhere - and usually that means the third world. Buying high quality and neutral clothing means you need far less. Call it a capsule wardrobe or simply conscious consumption, but it all basically means the same thing - buy less. We're proud to offer your children long-lasting and timeless clothing that they can wear in many different ways, for many seasons, so you don't need as much.

Support Local Makers

The past few years with shipping delays and global disruptions have helped us see our great dependence on other countries for our every need. We will always aim to provide you with the best in sustainable children's clothes, which sometimes means brands from Scandinavia and Europe, but we are delighted that so many of our most beautiful and ethically made items are from right here in Quebec. Les Petites Natures, Alpagas des Appalaches, and Caribou, to name a few.  These clothes are designed and made by our neighbours, which feels especially poignant in a season of uncertainty and difficulty.

Shop Sustainably

If you believe in making environmentally positive choices in life, that philosophy will trickle down to affect the clothing you purchase and wear. Shopping sustainably can be expensive and confusing with so many labels and certifications to understand. We're here to help! Everything we sell is made with organic textiles, renewable resources, and sustainable materials. Each item on our website includes details of the materials and certifications for full transparency.

Choose Secondhand First

We believe there's nothing more sustainable than buying pre-loved. Our pre-loved clothing is sold at a fraction of the original price, making sustainability accessible to more families. Many of us don't have the time to scour thrift shops to find the exact size and item our child needs in a given month, but that doesn't mean buying secondhand can't be easy for the busy parent. Our Pre-loved section is well organized by size and style, with hundreds of new items added every Wednesday at 12pm EST. Local shoppers can join us in the boutique to browse the same collection in person.

At Mini-Cycle, we really believe we can make a difference as our habits in purchasing create trends that affect cultures and ultimately climates. If any of the above listed resolutions resonate with you, we're glad! Even small acts add up to change. Let's make this year one for conscious purchasing, recycling, and doing what we can for our planet!
